We set up a half-acre model farm in Lodokejek Primary School in Samburu County. The farm was equipped with a modern drip irrigation system and was designed to demonstrate the benefits of sustainable water management practices and improved water-saving technologies.
The launch of the project coincided with the World Water DAY 2023 event which was aimed at promoting increased agricultural production, improved food security, and economic activity for the local community. The primary goals for setting up the model farm were to promote sustainable agricultural practices and provide a practical learning area for 4K Club students and the youth of Lodokejek to learn about modern farming practices.
The farm was also intended to serve as a template for farmers in the region who seek to start their own farms and finally, as a source of income for the school when the extra vegetables are sold. The organization plans to set up more model farms in the region, and to work with local communities to develop sustainable farming practices that can help them adapt to changing environmental conditions.
The primary goal of the project was to showcase the benefits of sustainable water management practices through the implementation of a modern drip irrigation system on the half-acre model farm.
